WHMIS is Mandatory
Any worker, employer or supplier who handles hazardous products, or works near them in the workplace, must receive Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training.
In Ontario, WHMIS applies to all employers covered under the Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA). Internationally, WHMIS aligns with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals, an internationally agreed-upon standard managed by the United Nations.

This course is online-only from start to finish. To access and finish the course and receive certification, you simply need a computer or a mobile phone, and Internet connection.
WHMIS training is legally required for everyone who works with or works near hazardous products. In Ontario, this is detailed under Ontario Regulation 860. Employers are required to ensure this training so if you are an employee, please check with your employer or safety officer.

Here is how it works.
- Purchase the course.
Use the “Enrol Now” button in this page. This will take you to the checkout page where you will be creating an account with us, as well as pay for the course.If you already have an account with us, please login to your account first.
- Finish the course.
Go to “My Enrolled Courses” to start your course, which takes about an hour to finish. You can resume your progress anytime and you can log in and out as many times as you need to. You don’t need to finish the course in one session. - Print your certificate.
After you have finished your online course, you will receive wall and wallet certificates via email which you can print out. You can also download the certificates under “My Certificates”.
WHMIS certificates do not expire, however it is recommended to take a refresher every year. The employer will decide how often the training should be updated. Some reasons for retraining are: new hazardous products introduced into the workspace, new job tasks or processes, workplace incidents or near-misses, or changes in WHMIS legislation.
Employees who transfer to another workplace will need to consult their employer about retraining.
This Online WHMIS Training course certification is accepted across Canada, however employers from other areas may have different preferences as to how WHMIS training should be acquired.
