Emergency Oxygen Therapy (E.O.T.)

Emergency Oxygen Therapy (E.O.T.)

Participants of this 1.5 hour course will learn how to check their oxygen tank to ensure it is full and operational, review the role of oxygen and its physiological use in the body as well as a practical demonstration of how to operate your oxygen cylinder. Finally, you will examine the oxygen adjuncts available (for example, oxygen regulators, masks, and oral/nasal airways) as well as how to effectively transfer care of a patient to responding emergency personnel.

Emergency Medication Administration (E.M.A.)

Emergency Medication Administration (E.M.A.)

Participants of this 2.5 hour course will review how to assess a patients’ vital signs and what they tell us, how to recognize common medical emergencies in the dental office (such as syncope, anaphylaxis, and cardiac dysrhythmias), and the pathophysiology of these conditions. A discussion of “the big six” emergency medications legally required in every dental office will be discussed as well as when and how to administer them. The session will conclude with hands-on practice preparing and administering different emergency medications.

Emergency Medical Scenarios (E.M.S.)

This course can be added onto any of the recommended or mandatory trainings (one hour) or may be taken as a separate course (three hours). Participants will role-play as either the victim or rescuers in several simulated medical emergencies. Dental staff will learn to recognize and simulate the treatment of a variety of medical conditions using the equipment and facilities available in their dental office.
